Sure, why not, it's highly possible. I know I have got the "OMG ARE YOU CRAZY!?!" look more then a few times. But does that mean I'm really crazy? Eh? Not sure...perhaps. Why am I asking this? Well because I was just reading a post from one of my herbal Yahoo Groups. For those of you that aren't aware, I've been doing an herbal course now since little man was born. I love it but I am moving through it very slowly. My interest jumps back and forth between herbalism and homeopathy but I feel on some level they are intimately connected which is likely why I love Matthew Wood's work so much. I am going to point you in the direction of the post I was reading. It was written by an ND and is on Conspiracy Theories. Doc runs the herbal group and seems to have a lot of good information but there is also a lot of conspiracy stuff that comes across the group. I'm of the mid that a conspiracy is only a conspiracy until proven true. Am I trying to prove them true, no. But I do find myself to be a lot more objective simply by being aware of them. So, here is his post - Conspiracy Theory. If you choose to read it, read it with an open mind.
Conspiracies are a rabbit hole I feel down a long time ago. GMO's, water quality, big pharma and big ag all fall under them at some point or another it seems. These things in my eye are not good. The Patriot Act also often falls under the 'conspiracy theory' category as you will read should you choose to read Doc's blog post. Just one example but one could argue that our freedoms as American's have been infringed upon since the inception of this particular Act. I used to think that Organic Certification was so wonderful. Now my views are much different. It does protect us from some stuff and if we lived in a vacuum it would protect us from GMO's as well but there are a number of loop holes. Did you know there is no standard for the type of chicken manure used on organic field. No standard. They can use battery hen house chicken manure to fertilize those organic watermelon you are eating. Yum! I'm sure you are aware by now that GMO's are not allowed in 100% Certified Organic. But were you aware that the Organic Certification is simply a procedural process and there is no testing required?! That one took me a while to get my head around. Organic farmers know this...go ahead, ask them. People think I'm crazy because I live in a state that is pushing through GMO labeling and I am not "all for it." I wrote the "people" and asked them if it was going to cover organics, restaurants, farmers, etc. I got quite a snoody, borderline rude response back. Nope, it's only going to cover processed products from the conventional industry. So what's the point? I'd rather purchase my food talking to farmers and relying on independent certifications like the Non-GMO Project then rely on conventional labeling. Are they going to test? Or is it going to be assumption based? What about meats that were raised on GMO feed? Nope, not processed. Excuse me why I take my crazy pill, no wonder Monsanto doesn't give two hoots, it's not that strict of a bill. But YAY, lets all get behind it and spend our valuable time and energy supporting something that really isn't going to protect us from a whole lot of anything. But I will know if my breakfast cereal contains GMO's. Well unless the GMO's make up that tiny portion of the ingredients that don't have to be on the label OR if it's part of a propitiatory blend like "natural flavors" or "spices" where it is not the end processors responsibility to tell you what's in those natural flavors ::cough...msg...cough:: or those spices because they didn't create them. Yep, it's official. Send me to the looney bin. Not conspiracy per say, but sure makes one thing. It's harder and harder to take control of your health if you don't know this things. Even when you do know these things, you always seem to be learning something new. So if you choose to read Doc's post, know that it is on a completely different type of conspiracy then I am talking about with food stuff but keep in mind that you should always remain objective. There is a lot of junk wrapped up and hidden is half truths whether it be food or other conspiracies. Time to go play in the garden and wild harvest some Horsetail. namaste <3
