Sometimes I feel like time isn't on my side. I know I have just as much time as the most brilliant minds of our (and past) centuries but man, where does it go! Since the last time I wrote here, we have had 6 lambs, canned up 4 gallons of syrup using our home made cinder block arch and an open fire, brought a mama sheep back from the brink, milked one of our sheep very successfully (they are not supposed to be milk sheep but she has wonderful production and a BIG baby), built a make shift pallet fence for part of our field, finally got our hoop house to withstand wind, and probably some stuff I'm forgetting. We have Freedom Ranger chicks coming this week, 100 of them. They aren't all ours, but about 42 of them will be remaining on the farm. I am fermenting feed for them and going to start them on that from the get go. I hope to talk more about that in a later post. We also are working on a fodder system but have been having poor luck with our currently barley. The fodder system is to transition the rabbits off grains and get them on a much healthier diet for their little bodies. We also have 2 rabbits due to kid on the 11th with their first litters. We will be breeding our older girls June 8th with the moon cycle for "Best Quality Does" to see what we get.
Oh the adventures. The garden is tilled and some of it is in, our gutted bathroom is almost redone (little man will have a tub!) and I haven't cleaned the house since the bathroom work started... WHEW! Who has time to be inside when it's been in the 70's and 80's for the past 2-3 weeks?! Oh, and I will be able to wash my sap buckets as soon as the tub is in! YAY! Lock down on our chicks (Delawares that are from our own birds on soy/corn free feed) starts Thursday and they should be arriving (if we have a good hatch rate ... crossing my fingers) on Saturday. I can't believe it's nearly been 3 weeks! Well anyway, wanted to give everyone and update. I am thriving and even through I'm 36 (or so) weeks pregnant my energy level is top notch and I'm sleeping like a baby. Can't complain about that at all!

Hi there, Wysteria here. I will be writing as regularly as possible on behalf of my family and regarding our adventures in farming, food, health and things of the like. My interest range widely and my brain wanders far. Namaste. Archives
